Off season winds - January to March

The 'offseason' in on. For all those inquiring, yes we have winds this time of year (January to March) - 3 -4 days a week wind at around 15 knots average. We have also experienced winds on the South Coast of Sri Lanka. We presume that East Coast will be good as well.

If you need help, feel free to e mail - info@kitesurfinglanka.com or DilsiriW@gmail.com
An ideal day could be; Dive/Snorkle/Surf/Stand Up Paddle Board in the morning. Relax. Kite until the sun goes down or Surf again!!!

Kalpitiya & the Deep South of Sri Lanka are nice!
Clear, mirror like conditions in the morning and then wind!

What next? Beginner Information

I bet some of you are visiting after the article and want to know how to get about it. I would suggest that you follow the introductory course - proficiency level 1 which gives you the basics of kitesurfing. With it and a bit of practice, you will be able ot actually go kitesurfing (under supervision ofcourse).

Call or drop a mail - details given below. What would be done is that a weekend would be blocked off for you for training. You dont need equipment - its all provided. Its also a good thing as some of you may want to opt out of the sport...there is a reason why its termed an extreme sport! For deciding to stick on, we'll help you source for your equipment.

Have fun!

So you want to learn the sport?

It looks nice but its not for everyone. Its a lot of work and unless you are willing dont bother. Suggest you do the level 1 course and decide.. Once you get the feel and decide that you want to do it...then perhaps look at purchasing your own gear. Kitesurfing gear is best not to be be shared - at least kites for obvious reasons. I've seen kites shredded and ripped by beginners...

Anyway, Your Board (second hand) USD 400+; Your New Kite (C Kite/ Bow Kite) - Start off with a 13 Square Meter - good size for most Sri Lankan wind and later on buy a 7 or 9 Square Meter USD 400 - USD 700+ and Harness USD 90+. Thats about it. Loads of patience, bruises and persistance...
